Controversial Video Game Postal 2 is Now Free on GOG

Well, This is Going to Upset Some People

Postal 2 is now free on GOG. However, this might not be the smartest move on GOG’s behalf as Postal 2 is notoriously controversial and is going to inevitably ruffle a lot of feathers. Originally released in 2003 Postal 2 is a mindless shooter where the player gets to control a character who has gone “postal”. You essentially just walk around a kill people. Something that a lot of people like.

Postal 2

The game was condemned by many when it was first released and it is still seen as a very tasteless game today. Especially due to the rise in mass shootings and terrorist attacks in the Western World. Some have claimed that games like Postal 2 have encouraged or lead to this sort of behavior amongst youth.

Postal 2 is really just going for sheer shock value to attract attention and it has done a very good job of doing so. Reviews for the game have been unilaterally poor and sales were always low. Why GOG has decided to add this game to their December sale is bizarre, to say the least.

Similar games have been made since, namely Hatred which premiered on Steam in 2015 to massive outrage. Hatred was originally taken off Steam to appease those who were upset until Valve ultimately allowed the game to be sold on their platform.

Regardless of what you think of the Postal series, another Postal game is currently in the works. Running With Scissors, the developers behind the franchise are working on Postal 4: No Regrets. The latest Postal game is currently in early access on both Steam and GOG.

What do you think about games like Postal? Do online retailers like GOG and Steam have a responsibility to not promote games like these? Or should the choice be left up to the individual? Please let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
