Playtonic Denies That It’s Making a New Banjo Kazooie and Reaffirms Its Independence

Don’t Expect a New Banjo Kazooie From Playtonic Anytime Soon

Yooka-Laylee studio Playtonic debunked a recent rumor about the studio working on a new Banjo Kazooie game and being acquired by Microsoft. The rumor originated from a ResetEra thread that theorized that this was the case and speculated that a major announcement was going to be made at Microsoft’s X019 event later this month.

However, Playtonic said on Wednesday that it wasn’t “working on a new Banjo Kazooie game” and the studio isn’t being bought by Microsoft.

“While we would love to work with the bear and bird again, that ball isn’t in our court,” Playtonic also said. “With that said, we are keen to continue progressing as a studio, carrying the experience of games we worked on, old and new, to create new characters and adventures for you to (hopefully) love.”

Playtonic added, “We’re sorry if this isn’t what you wanted to hear from us, at first, we found it amusing that [character artist] Ed Bryan’s bag is being used as serious ‘evidence’, but we reckon it wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t set the record straight.”
