Overwatch 2 Seemingly Won’t Be out for a While
Overwatch 2 was just announced at Blizzcon yesterday and though some fans are unsure about the idea of a sequel, there are those that are ecstatic. The announcement came complete with a big reveal trailer and confirmation about which platforms it’s currently in development for. So what about a release date? As it turns out, the date’s a little murky.
Jeff Kaplan, Game Director for the Overwatch franchise, recently discussed the development of the game. When asked when the fans might get to jump into the sequel he replied very vaguely. In fact, he stated that he has “no idea” when Overwatch 2 will be released. And though that might be rather nonchalant, he did confirm that the team is working hard to make the game great. “I don’t know, I have no idea. Like, just let us make it great. That’s what we care about more than anything. We don’t have a date in mind.”
Although it seems it could be a while to go before we get our hands on Overwatch 2, it also seems rather safe to assume that it’s not going to be years until we see the game. After all, the reveal trailer already looked amazing, complete with new maps, characters, and a whole campaign! Here’s what Kaplan had to say about the development so far, “I have to caveat this event. Like I mentioned, Overwatch 2 is still in development, and we have a long ways to go before this game is fully ready. So we’re only showing you a part of the progression system right now and it’s also likely that progression could change a lot in the time that the game is released.”
As it was confirmed following the Overwatch 2 Blizzcon panel the game is currently in development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. No word yet on the next console generation at this time however. What do you think about Overwatch 2? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to keep it locked for updates!
