Some of the Overwatch 2 Platforms Have Been Confirmed

This Indicates a Release Window

Overwatch fans (mostly) rejoiced yesterday at the announcement of Overwatch 2 during BlizzCon 2019. Once we all calmed down, we now have a couple of questions. A) When will we get to play it, and B) who will get to play it? As you may remember, Overwatch was not released on all its current platforms at launch. While the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 versions all came out at launch, it was not until just last month that Nintendo Switch got Overwatch. Shortly after its announcement, we have confirmation about what Overwatch 2 platforms we will see at launch.

Overwatch 2 Platforms

Overwatch 2 will launch on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It is almost assured to also be on PS5 and Xbox Scarlett when they launch, but its presence on the current generation of consoles suggests a release window of late 2020, which is the release window of the next major consoles. This is just speculation though; Blizzard has not officially announced a release date for Overwatch 2.

We also know that all cosmetics like skins and emotes will carry over from Overwatch to Overwatch 2, but will players be able to transfer their cosmetics from PC to PS5? Or Xbox One to Nintendo Switch? Overwatch currently does not support cross-play between its platforms, but Blizzard claims to keep that option on the table for the future. Other cross-generational games like GTA V have allowed progress to transfer between platforms across generations, so hopefully Blizzard will follow suit with Overwatch and Overwatch 2. As we said, Overwatch 2 has no confirmed release date, but we have our guesses.

When do you think we will get to play Overwatch 2? Let us know in the comments below.
