2018’s Tomb Raider Movie Is Getting a Sequel
The sequel to last year’s Tomb Raider movie is expected to hit theaters on March 19th, 2021, according to entertainment news outlet Deadline. The upcoming movie will see Alicia Vikander return as Lara Croft and its director is Ben Wheatley, whose previous work includes movies such as A Field in England and High-Rise.
According to Deadline, the next Tomb Raider movie will enter production in early 2020.
Vikander’s first outing as one of gaming’s most well-known explorers received decent reviews (for a video game movie) and managed to make $274 million globally. While our review praised Vikander’s performance, it also criticized the movie for the uneven quality of its narrative.
“While the script in some places does a mild disservice to the main character and the actress playing her, there’s no denying the film’s polish,” the review’s author wrote. “It contains good acting, a mixed narrative, great production value, and, most importantly, a great Lara Croft. Despite my issues, this film bears none of the stink we associate with video game movies these days.”
