Head of Sony Worldwide Studios Says They’re Looking Beyond Playstation
While emphasizing the Playstation platform will always be their number one priority, Head of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shawn Layden, suggested upcoming titles from the studios will be available on a wider installer base. Layden suggests making Sony games available on other consoles on PC and believes multiplayer titles in particular would benefit from the wide installer base which means we’ll be seeing more cross-platform play in a move that’s sure to make gamers on all sides happy. More on this interview can be found on Bloomberg’s website.
With Sony Shawn Layden following the announcement from Microsoft’s Matt Booty, is it possible we’ll see both Microsoft games on PS5 and Sony games on the Xbox Scarlett? Though the studio will always release on the Playstation first, it’s interesting to think of the possibility that a game like The Last of Us 2 could theoretically release on Xbox One and Gears of War 5 on the Playstation 4, for example. Though Sony seems keen on keeping these cross-platform releases to multiplayer games, so could we expect to see Gran Turismo or Killzone make the move to other consoles? Fans of the Nintendo Switch know that Microsoft has already made the effort to put their exclusives on the hybrid console with titles such as Cuphead and New Super Lucky’s Tale which have been met with success on the eShop. The magnitude of these announcements following each other so closely has the eyes of gamers around the world on Nintendo.
