Control Will Not Feature New Game Plus Mode

Upcoming Remedy Entertainment Metroidvania Trades New Game Plus For Photo Mode

Action-adventure game Control comes out August 27th on Xbox One, PS4 and PC where it will receive post-launch updates including the recently announced photo mode where gamers will be able to experiments with in-game photography. Though the developers at Remedy Entertainment discussed the possibilities of having a New Game Plus mode as part of the post-launch updates but ran into constraints beyond their control. “There are certain game designs constraints, technical reasons and simply a lack of resources as to why we cannot do that,” said director of communications Thomas Puha during a recent interview.

Control New game plus

Remedy Entertainment recently wrapped up production on Control, taking a long awaited rest before the world gets their hands on this reality bending Metroidvania action-adventure game. After release, Thomas Puha expects to get to work on updates to the game and other future content to support Control going into 2020 and onward. Other game modes presently being considered are survival and challenge modes. If Control succeeds massively, Remedy Entertainment may be able to utilize the resources to expand their small team and craft the perfect new game plus mode but as of now, only photo mode is planned officially.

Because of the progression and level design, Metroidvania games aren’t typically given new game plus modes but because Remedy Entertainment developers discussed it as a possibility, our minds are running wild with ideas of what it would look like. Control will receive at least two expansions after launch but as of now, Thomas Puha expects gamers to spend 10-15 hours exploring the dark and mysterious world the team at Remedy Entertainment crafted.
