Hideo Kojima Shares How Mads Mikkelsen Influenced Death Stranding

Turns out Mads Mikkelsen Influenced Death Stranding in an Interesting Way

Hideo Kojima has recently released a brand new and exciting trailer for Death Stranding, complete with a release date for this fall. Mads Mikkelsen, best known for his work in the TV hit Hannibal, is set to play a large role in the game and it seems he may have just influenced his character in the game.

In a new tweet from Kojima, he shares how Mads Mikkelsen influenced Death Stranding in one simple way. According the famous director when he first wrote the script for the game, Mikkelsen’s character Cliff was a bit different from what we saw in the new trailer. So how did Mikkelsen help influence Kojima? Apparently after seeing the actor smoke during a break in filming, he decided to make the change to the script.

Here’s what Kojima had to say, “Cliff played by Mads in the new [Death Stranding] trailer is a heavy smoker. When I first wrote the script, Cliff wasn’t a smoker but I changed his character setting after seeing him smoke during the break of filming.” You can check out the tweet, complete with a couple photos, below.

Now if you’ve watched the trailers and are still not sure quite what to expect from Death Stranding, here’s what Sony’s official game page has to say, “In the near future, mysterious explosions have rocked the planet, setting off a series of supernatural events known as the Death Stranding. With spectral creatures plaguing the landscape, and the planet on the verge of a mass extinction, it’s up to Sam Bridges to journey across the ravaged wasteland and save mankind from impending annihilation.”

Death Stranding is set to release on November 8th exclusively for the PS4. What do you think about this little change Kojima made to Mads character Cliff? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to keep it locked for updates!
