It Seems to Be in Good Hands
Hot on the heels of Mortal Kombat 11, we have news of the long-coming Mortal Kombat movie. First, let us recap what we know about it. James Wan is producing. He is the director of Aquaman, The Conjuring 1 and 2, Saw, as well as Insidious 1 and 2. In the director’s seat will be Simon McQuoid. This is his directorial debut. There is also a supposed leak of the character list for the movie. This list includes Sub-Zero, Kano, Mileena, Jax, Sonya Blade, Raiden, Liu Kang, Shang Tsung, and Kung Lao. Now, we have news that it will hit theaters in 2021.
For the better part of a decade, this Mortal Kombat reboot has passed between directors, giving it an uncertain future. Now that producer and director are set, location has been chosen, and pre-production is about to start, Warner Bros. is comfortable giving the film a March 5, 2021 release date. Variety says that pre-production starts this month and that filming will start later this year. That will take place in Australia.
James Wan has quite a bit of experience in the horror movie game. After Aquaman, we know he can do action as well. With the grotesque and violent nature of Mortal Kombat, James Wan should feel right at home. Capturing the graphic torture scenes of Saw can parallel nicely with the Fatalities of Mortal Kombat. Once again, fans can expect Mortal Kombat in theaters on March 5th, 2021.
