The Valve Index VR Headset Has Been Revealed
With all of the recent announcements from Apple and Google, Valve couldn’t just sit back and let its competitors have all the fun. As such the company behind Steam has finally, after great anticipation, revealed their virtual reality headset calling it the Valve Index.
Now Valve unveiled the Valve Index without an elaborate presentation and instead opted to take the silent approach. Last night a Steam product page popped up for the device. The page shows off a single picture of the headset, as well as the following text, “Upgrade your experience. May 2019.” You can check this picture out below.
At this point in time no other details are available about the Valve Index, nor is it completely clear what the May 2019 date means. Either we’ll receive more information about the VR headset in May or it will launch in May 2019. It seems more likely that it will actually launch during this month however, as a May release date would line up well with a few other VR headsets like the Oculus Quest and the Oculus Rift S, both set to launch in Spring 2019. Fingers crossed we’ll receive a bit more details about it over the coming weeks.
This big announcement comes just a few months after the headset was leaked back in November in a report from UploadVR. In this report it was rumored that the headset would have a display quality similar to the Vive Pro, supporting a resolution of 2880 x 1600 and that the headset would have a 135-degree field-of-view. As it stands that would be a wider view than that of the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Vive Pro, all of which have a 100-degree field-of-view.
