Oddworld Soulstorm Gets a Long Lost Cinematic Piece at GDC 2019

A Look at Rendering for Oddworld: Soulstorm

It’s been all quiet on the odd frontier for years now, so Oddworld Inhabitants, makers of the Oddworld series, have finally unveiled their next experiment gone wrong. Since this week is GDC week, the developers wanted to demonstrate their rendering techniques with the trailer for Oddworld: Soulstorm. At a glance, unsurprisingly, it’s the best-looking entry yet.

While the visuals are impressive, there’s hardly an indication that Oddworld Soulstorm’s gameplay will run as smoothly. However, according to the developer, the game will utilize the same rendering techniques, which means we can hope for a beautiful game. Here’s a little glimpse of what to expect in the next installment.

The last new installment in the Oddworld series came with Stranger’s Wrath which arrived in 2005. Since then we’ve seen Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey remade with better technology. And as we speak, Stranger’s Wrath is being ported over to the Nintendo Switch. Like Soulstorm, there’ve been no details on a release date. Therefore, the best we can do is sit on our hands and eagerly anticipate the next announcement. Perhaps we’ll get one as soon as E3 2019.
