Only Babies Cry When They Lose
We are officially less than one month away from the release of Mortal Kombat 11. With about three characters revealed within the past week, NetherRealm shows no sign of slowing down. They just won’t let us catch a breather before launch day, will they? Yesterday, co-creator of the series Ed Boon made either a tease for the new game or a call back to an older one. He tweeted a GIF of a crying baby from the Flintstones with the caption “BABALITY #FredFlintstoneKonfirmed” It’s more likely that we would see Mortal Kombat 11 Babalities than a playable Fred Flintstone, so is this an announcement?
The Babality is a twist on the Mortal Kombat Fatality. Instead of turning an opponent into a pile of bone and flesh, they get turned into a feeble and pathetic baby. Babalities first appeared in Mortal Kombat II where a poof of flame engulfed the defeated fighter and was replaced by a baby version of themselves. The sound of crying would be heard and they were often wearing a diaper. Green text would appear spelling Babality!! In Mortal Kombat 3 and all its iterations, the green text was replaced with children’s letter blocks.

Babalities returned in Mortal Kombat (2011) or Mortal Kombat 9, however you want to say it. This time, each character had their own unique animation as a baby. They would often fall down and cry, sitting in a pool of their own tears. If they are in Mortal Kombat 11, it is not a big surprise that it would be teased or announced this late in development. It’s not a new feature, just return to the series.
