But It’s Still Far Away…
Near the precipice of Anthem’s launch, we’re still curious about the fate of the Mass Effect franchise. When will it come? How will BioWare fare after the new game’s release? While many answers remain in the dark, Casey Hudson was kind enough to remind fans that Mass Effect isn’t going anywhere.
In an interview with Polygon, producer Mike Darah and the General Manager talked a little bit about the state of the studio and its properties. While there’s plenty of sci-fi goodness to witness in Anthem, Darah confirmed, “We’re definitely not done with Mass Effect.” The universe is too big and synonymous with the studio to ever leave people’s minds. The same goes for the devs.
“We’re definitely not done with Mass Effect. There’s a lot of stories to be told. We could pull on the threads we put down with Andromeda; we could pull on threads from Mass Effect 3. There’s a lot of interesting space to be explored.”
For the time being, there are several more milestones to reach. By all implications, the next Dragon Age installment will follow Anthem’s release, and that may be pretty far down the line as well. Unless BioWare builds up its studio, patience is the key to playing the next Mass Effect game. That said, Hudson remains conscious of the IP and its impact.
“In my mind, it’s very much alive,” says Hudson. “I’m thinking all the time about things that I think will be great. It’s just a matter of getting back to it as soon as we can.”
Anthem will hit PS4, PC, and Xbox One on February 22, 2019. Post-launch content has been detailed in a separate post and another. Expect many more updates throughout the year, hopefully with some relevant details on our favorite franchises.
