Neill Blomkamp’s Anthem Live-Action Trailer Lands Beautifully

Javelins Arrive Straight out of the Game

Earlier this week, director Neill Blombkamp teased a live-action short film for the upcoming Anthem video game. The video just landed, and it’s jam-packed with all the practical effects we miss this day and age.

Anthem

Anthem was developed by BioWare and published by EA then came to life via Oats Studios. The new video is a stellar marketing maneuver in anticipation of the game’s release, with a heavy montage of narrative and beautiful shots. Of course, you might understand it better when the game arrives, and you play the story. However, that doesn’t take away from the fantastic film-making on display. Have a deep dive into the world of Anthem below.

The peculiarity of this video is that it reads more like a trailer than a short story. A trailer to a live-action production we would hope to see on HBO or some other service. Not that I mind. Even if the video is not one chronological cut, it’s cohesive and riddled with fantastic sci-fi props. In many ways, it seems like Neill Blomkamp’s test screening for an awesome mini-series. Will we see anything of the like in the future? Who knows.

Anthem launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 22nd, 2019. EA Origin Early Access users get the full game on February 15, 2019.
