Kojima takes Death Stranding to Guerrilla Games

Death Stranding is built on Guerrilla’s Decima Engine.

Death Stranding is a bit of an enigma – it’s Hideo Kojima’s first post-Konami project and it has a fairly star studded cast, but that’s about all we as the general public know at this point in time. However, the team at Guerrilla Games recently got to sit down with Kojima and experience two hours of the game.

Guerrilla Games Co-Founder Herman Hulst shared two photos via his twitter – noting that in 2016 his team gave Kojima the Decima Engine that he would use to develop Death Stranding. Kojima returned to share with the team the work he has done so far.

Kojima then posted a thanks to the team at Guerrilla – when he was just establishing Kojima productions, he had no machine or engine, and a very small number of staff.  He is grateful for the support the Guerrilla team offered him, developing a strong bond over the last 3 years.

While visiting Hulst and his team, Kojima was able to present them with a 2-hour demo and filled them in on their status. It was noted that the game isn’t complete “yet”.

So when can we expect Death Stranding for ourselves? While no release date has been given yet, Troy Baker may have let a small detail slip. You may have noticed a 2009 vs 2019 trend going around on various social media sites – well, Baker himself got in on it with the following tweet

That’s Snow, who Baker voiced in Final Fantasy 13, and The Man in The Golden Mask from Death Stranding as the 2019 photo. While it may not be any sort of solid confirmation, we may see Death Stranding this year.

Death Stranding will release exclusively for PlayStation 4.
