Dishonored Franchise Is “Resting” for the Time Being

Dishonored Is Taking a Back Seat

It appears that Arkane Studios’ Dishonored series is taking a break. Although both series installments were warmly received by both critics and players, lead designer Ricardo Bare confirmed at QuakeCon earlier in the month that the series is currently on hold.

“I can’t say definitively what might happen down the road, anything could happen, but [Dishonored] is resting for now,” Bare said. “As far as pure immersive sims go, I don’t know if we’re going to continue to make like carbon copy — this qualifies as an immersive sim and it’s the only thing we’re ever going to make.”

But don’t worry: Bare suggested that Arkane’s priority is still “coherent, deep world building and environmental storytelling,” which means we can expect more of the same level of quality in future games by the developer.

“…we’re always going to craft spaces that you feel like you’re visiting, whether it’s Dunwall or Talos 1. It’s just as important a character as the player or the people you meet.”

Although Dishonored is “resting for now,” Arkane Studios is focusing on the future. And while we don’t know exactly what that entails yet, a recent job posting suggests something on the Nintendo Switch.

“To expand its programming team and strengthen its internal technology, Arkane Studios is seeking talented Engine Programmers to join us in making ambitious AAA games,” part of the job description read.
