Monster Hunter Gets the 3D Animation Treatment With a Little Help From the West
Following the massive success of Monster Hunter World and it’s recently confirmed release date for PC, Capcom has announced a 3D animated special set in the franchise’s monster-filled world.
Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild will be about a warrior who leaves his small town on a quest to take on one of the series’ powerful Elder Dragons. Not much else is known about the special, aside from the concept art tease seen above, and that it will be made in collaboration with Pure Imagination Studios, known for a series of Lego-animated shorts including a Lego-based episode of The Simpsons. Joshua Fine, a writer for Starz Ultimate Spider-Man series, is also attached to the project.
“We think die-hard fans will appreciate our dedication to the source material while those uninitiated to the series will still be treated to an epic adventure in a wholly unique world,” series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto said.
The special is aiming for a 2019 release, with Capcom and Pure Imagination currently shopping it around to different broadcasters (my money is on Netflix, naturally).
In the meantime, Monster Hunter World is currently having its Summer event, and a new entry in the franchise is on it’s way to the Nintendo Switch. There’s also a Monster Hunter movie in production.
Monster Hunter World is currently available for PS4 and Xbox One.
