E3 2018: Anthem Gets Another Spectacular Showing

โ€˜Our World, My Storyโ€™

Anthem got a huge showing at the end of EAโ€™s E3 conference on Saturday and its developers spoke extensively about several of its features on-stage.

Casey Hudson, the General Manager of Bioware, described Anthem as a โ€œdynamicโ€ open world game thatโ€™s different from the usual singleplayer/multiplayer games. Hudson stated that their game wasnโ€™t an MMO and another Bioware developer said that it was going to be โ€œa shared storyโ€ instead.

โ€œWhatโ€™s really exciting for us,โ€ said Cathleen Rootsaert, the gameโ€™s lead writer, โ€ is weโ€™re creating something new and exciting for the player.โ€

In the story of Anthem, players take control of a freelancer who is able to use the gameโ€™s exosuits or โ€œJavelinsโ€. The gameโ€™s main story can be played solo or cooperatively and same goes for exploring the gameโ€™s open world. Notably, there wonโ€™t be PvP in Anthem.

Rootsaert went onto describe the world of Anthem as a hazardous one that was โ€œunfinished by the godsโ€. If players hope to survive such a treacherous world then theyโ€™ll need a Javelin, the developers explained. There are four different types of Javelins in the game and each type offers unique playstyles.

Javelins are also customizable and players will be able to purchase cosmetic microtransactions. However, there wonโ€™t be any lootboxes or pay-to-win features, according to Bioware.

Anthem is scheduled to come out on February 22, 2019 for the PC, PS4 & Xbox One.
