Analyst Says Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Not Manage to Surpass GTA V Sales
Just a few days ago analysts confirmed that not only is GTA V one of the most successful video games in history, but it is the most profitable entertainment product of all time. With a total of over $6 billion in sales, this has left many investors wondering about how successful Rockstar Game’s latest and upcoming title: Red Dead Redemption 2, will be. An analyst may just have something to say about this.
In a recent discussion with Market Watch, Doug Creutz, an industry analyst for Cowen & Company, suggests that like any future Rockstar title, Red Dead Redemption 2 will be sell very well. Just maybe not as well as GTA V has. He states that GTA V is a “wild outlier” in the industry, “maybe with the exception something Nintendo has made”, like Mario Brothers, “there’s never been a console game that’s sold so many units.” This is why he believes RDR2 will never reach the same heights as GTA V has. Creutz continued stating, “That’s not to say Rockstar won’t have other big hits. It may. But another ‘GTA V’ isn’t likely. Michael Jackson had a lot of hit albums but he only had one ‘Thriller.'”
Creutz does make a fair point though, it’ll be hard for anything to even come close to the success of GTA V. With that said, Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably the most anticipated title of the year so you never know what could happen. After all, it will likely sell a ton! Regardless, if it sells even half of the 90 million copies GTA V has in its lifetime, I’d say that’s pretty good. Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to launch on October 26th, for the PS4 and Xbox One.
Do you think RDR2 has a chance to outsell GTA V? Would you be surprised if it did? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and keep it locked for updates!
