God of War Director Cory Barlog Wants to Work on Making His Own New Original IP

We are less than one week away from the official release of God of War, which if the reviews are anything to go by, it will likely boast one of the biggest launches of the year. We recently told you that God of War is the highest reviewed PlayStation 4 title to date, with an average score of 95 on metacritic. So what does the success of the latest title mean for the game director Cory Barlog? It seems he may just want to branch out on his own.

With the anticipation building for the release of a huge title, God of War, Cory Barlog, the games director, has been speaking to various media outlets promoting the game. One of these recent stops was with the Youtube channel Skill Up. During the carpool interview, Barlog talked about the upcoming title, as well as his own personal ambitions following its release which includes making his very own original IP.

When talking to Ralph Panebianco during a carpool interview for the Skill Up Youtube channel, Cory Barlog described his reaction to the extremely positive God of War reviews. Here’s what he had to say, “I have this ritual of being alone when the reviews go up. I [tried to do my own reaction video]. It was a weird, very emotional moment. More emotional than I expected to be honest. It caught me way off guard. I recorded about a 10-minute video, and I think about 8 minutes of that I was crying…I do feel like it was the completion of a very long, very difficult five years, and it was a little bit of vindication, I guess.” You can check out the video below.

Naturally, Panebianco asked about what the future holds for the successful director, to which Barlog replied, “I really would love to create something of my own next, something that really is truly 100% coming from my original vision.” He then went on to explain that while he’d love to do this, he’d have to convince Sony to let him work on whatever idea he pitches. Considering the success God of War is likely to be, it would be surprising if Sony didn’t let him spread his wings and create his own game.
