Destiny 2’s Development Roadmap Hits Some Bumps

At the end of January, Bungie laid down a Destiny 2 roadmap that led up to the beginning of season 3 in May. Now, they have modified the map to push back many features, including Nightfall rewards and Exotic weapon and armour balance.

The Nightfall rewards were supposed to hit on February 27 in the 1.1.3 update, but will now release in 1.1.4 on March 27. A reduction in repeat Exotic drops and a companion vendor viewing option will also be included in this update. In addition, Exotic sandbox changes will release with season 3 in May instead of with 1.1.4 in March.

But fans will probably be most disappointed in the delay of improvement to the gear mods system. While they were supposed to release in May, they have been completely removed from the calender. However, game director Christopher Barrett confirms that they are still planned.

“With today’s update we’ve moved a few items out to later releases—this is because we are trying to ensure each feature we add hits a sufficiently high quality bar,” he said. “So while we really wanted to get Nightfall Strike Unique Weapons into your hands next week to coincide with Nightfall Scoring, it’s more important that each of those rewards live up to the difficulty it will take to earn them. They have to be super cool, so we’re giving the artists extra time to make sure they are.”

Despite the disappointing delays, Bungie has already made numerous updates to Destiny 2. And the Prestige Nightfall Challenge Cards are still set to arrive with the February 27 1.1.3 update. For Crucible fans, the 1.1.4 update in March will add the six-player free-for-all mode from Destiny 1, Rumble. The new mode will be added to the rotating weekly Crucible playlist.

Destiny 2 is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
