Blizzard Bringing Back Last Year’s Diablo Anniversary Event

Maybe There Will Be New Loot This Time?

Last year, Blizzard commemorated one of their oldest franchises with a Diablo Anniversary event called the Darkening of Tristram. It was a fun, clever little nod to the older entries in the series that came with rewards for completing every part of it. Now, they’re bringing back that same event in January. Is it… is it the exact same event?

To be fair, if you missed out on this event last year, this is a perfect opportunity to catch up and snag all those rewards. On top of that, the event itself is pretty fun, at the right difficulty setting. On the other hand, if you’ve already gone back to Tristram in all of its RetroVision glory, seeing the event repeated feels a little flimsy.

Diablo III was conspicuously absent from the most recent BlizzCon. The last major update the game got was an extra character, the Necromancer. It looks like this year’s anniversary might come and go with nary a peep from the higher-ups at Blizzard. Is this game dead? I mean, it’s over five years old, so it might be. Is Blizzard keeping this one on life support until they announce a sequel or an expansion? Or are we witnessing the last feeble gasps of this titanic ARPG? The upcoming anniversary would be a great time to announce something new, you guys.
