Neil Druckmann announces he is co-writing The Last of Us Part II in a Tweet

Well, the gaming world is abuzz with the momentous news that The Last of Us Part II, the planned sequel to the hugely-successful post-apocalyptic game The Last of Us, is in development. That’s right – the game was revealed in a mind-blowing presentation at PSX 2016 – check out our full story here.

And now we have word (thanks to WTFGamersOnly) that Neil Druckmann, who was the Creative Director and writer of The Last of Us, has announced via Twitter that he will be co-writing the sequel with Halley Gross. Gross co-wrote two episodes of the popular HBO series, Westworld.

From what we know, The Last of Us Part II will be a continuation of Joel and Ellie’s story, but set five years later and focusing more on Ellie. Speaking at a recent panel, Druckmann stated his motivation for getting on board the new project, saying “nobody cares about these characters like we do and we would not do this if we didn’t have the right idea.”

In the trailer shown during PSX, Ashley Johnson’s character, Ellie, sings a song while playing a guitar. The vocals are by Johnson herself, who was reportedly sent to a vocal coach to get her voice to sound more amateur like Ellie.

The Last of Us Part II is very early in development and no release date has been announced.
