Study Shows That Pokemon Go Player Base Activity Is Staggering

A Study Shows Us That the Pokemon GO Player Base Activity Is Staggering

Niantic’s efforts to keep up the Pokemon GO online player base isn’t working out as well as they hoped. Even with the recent updates trying to keep players interested, like the release of the mysterious Pokemon Ditto, increasing prize giveaways, and pushing an update for generation 2 Pokemon, their efforts just aren’t seeing the spike in players that they were hoping for, and the numbers certainly can’t even begin to compare to the amount of online players that were present when the game first launched in July of 2016.

In a study posted in the British Medical Journal, they followed the activity of a group of Pokemon GO iPhone players for a month. They tested this specifically on the iPhone, because some Android devices do not have the active pedometer. The results? By tracking the pedometer, they saw that the level of activity among the players dropped significantly, even dropping down to the amount of physical steps taken by non-Pokemon GO players by the end of the testing period. And that’s… that’s bad.

That shows us that the initial excitement of going out and being the very best, like no one ever was, begins to fade away after a few short weeks. The more the players play Pokemon GO, the less interested they become. Even though there isn’t any data as to why exactly these players stop trying to catch ’em all, we certainly see that they aren’t walking around as actively anymore.
