PS4 Pro Gets Disappointing News
Earlier this month Sony introduced the PS4 Pro which delivers enhanced experiences through improved image processing capability and support for 4K quality images. Many hoped this would mean true 4K for the console. Well, that doesn’t appear to be the case as it seems the promise of a truly 4K PS4 is a bit further off than we anticipated.
According to Sony boss Andrew House (who spoke to Digital Spy at Tokyo Game Show) the “majority” of games that will be running in 4K on the PS4 Pro will be upscaled rather than native 4K. House says, “I would say the majority will be upscaled – at least based on the game portfolio I have seen to date.”
Sony hasn’t actually admitted that yet, so when pressed on whether saying PS4 Pro games would run in 4K was misleading, House stated: “No, I don’t think so. I think that’s what people are looking for and they’ll make their judgement as to whether that’s working for them or not.”
It certainly appears that the current roster of games will be upscaled; however, future titles could run natively in 4K to take advantage of the PS4 Pro’s increased hardware. We certainly hope so.
PS4 Pro will be available on November 10, 2016, in Japan, North America and Europe at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of US$399.
For those of us in Canada the PS Pro will retail for $499.99.
