CD Projekt RED Just Needs Sony to Approve PS4/X1 Gwent Cross-Play

CDPR Waiting on Sony for PS4/X1 Gwent Cross-Play

If there’s one thing that we can say about CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwiński it’s that he cares deeply about the player. He cares about the people who play his company’s games and he respects every penny of hard earned cash that they fork over too. We saw it in an open letter that the studio head penned to all the fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after it had sold a whopping four million copies.

If that wasn’t enough, Iwiński also has shown us that quality will always be the top priority for CD Projekt RED. When speaking on the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077 he stated that they’ll take as long as they need to make it right. They won’t rush a product to market just to make some cash and risk disappointing or disrespecting their fans.

For these reasons, it should come as no surprise that CD Projekt RED and Marcin Iwiński only want what’s best for their customers regardless of their platform of choice. When asked by IGN what his thoughts were on Rocket League looking at cross-play in comparison to CDPR’s upcoming card game Gwent, he had this to say:

We are keeping our fingers crossed for Rocket League paving the way. Our upcoming Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will launch in closed beta for PC and Xbox One later this year, and Microsoft already confirmed Gwent’s cross-play feature not only between Xbox One and PC, but also other consoles if they allow it. We also do have a technical solution in place for PS4 and would love to add Sony’s platform to cross-play at the start of open beta. All we need is a green light from Sony.”

Further proving his dedication to not only great games but to the consumers who buy them, Iwiński also urged that other developers begin looking at full cross-platform play from every console through to PC. “At the end of the day, this is for the players, isn’t it?” he stated, to which we could not possibly agree more. What a refreshing thing to hear from one of the biggest developers in the business.
