Daydreamer: Awakened Edition Brings Beautiful Nightmares to PS4

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition arrives this week as a PS4-exclusive

Admit it: there’s a part of us that kinda likes nightmares – how else to explain our love for horror movies and haunted houses? Well now, PS4 owners get to live a waking dream exclusively as Daydreamer: Awakened Edition launches this week for the PS4.

Those who were waiting to jump into a nightmarish world of Daydreamer: Awakened Edition will get to experience their horrors when the delay finally ends and the game releases on July 12th. It was originally planned for both PS4 and Xbox One; but unfortunately for Xbox One owners, the game will no longer be released on that platform, and will be only on PS4. No word on why, but there will also apparently be a 20% PSN discount for one week following launch.

Here is a full description of the game from Atlus:

Awaken into a nightmare filled with malicious aliens, grotesque mutants, emotionless robots, and giant bugs in Daydreamer: Awakened Edition, coming soon for PS4. The side-scrolling platformer/shoot-em-up game was originally released on the PC, but the new Awakened Edition includes major gameplay updates and numerous refinements, for those brave enough to walk the perilous path of the daydreamer.

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition is the story of the last human who rouses from an eternal sleep to an unfamiliar Earth. Aliens took over the planet thousands of years ago, and the nameless protagonist was kept in a stasis chamber as a twisted relic to memorialize their victory. However, the mysterious Immortal Gate Keeper liberates her and sets her on a dangerous expedition to the Earth’s core. Be warned though—the aliens will do whatever it takes to get their trophy back, and the Earth is filled with frightening creatures that hunger for human flesh.

The game also features special “pets” formed from the imagination of the Dreamer who provide support to give the player a tactical edge amongst all the chaos. The game is boss-focused and plays like a classic arcade shoot ‘em up with off-road checkpoints.

Daydreamer

Daydreamer was first showcased at the Moscone Center’s GDC Play Area at the 2015 Game Developer Conference. It has Sprite graphics, and features an interface designed for a gamepad. Daydreamer: Awakened Edition will be available digitally on the PlayStation Network in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The game will be priced at $9.99 in the United States (with comparable international pricing). For more info, check out the official webpage here.
