The Witcher 3’s ‘Gwent’ Is Apparently Getting Its Own Game

CD Projekt Files Trademark for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game

The Witcher 3 is a damn popular title, and it should be no surprise that people are still talking about it. One surprisingly pleasant aspect of the game was its in-game equivalent of Magic: The Gathering, known as Gwent. CD Projekt RED recently filed the trademark for what is going to be potential known as Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, and that sound you’re hearing? That’s us squealing with excitement.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game

Gwent was an incredibly popular part of the game, with many players getting lost in its series of quests that involved travelling the world, collecting rare cards, and battling the best that Novigrad, Velen, Skellige, and even Touissant have to offer. The European Union Intellectual Property Office listed a trademark for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game this past Monday, and the application included the logo you saw on our page. CD Projekt RED revealed in March that they were planning to create “a new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio” and were aiming for a release in 2016. Seeing how solid of a game Gwent was already, it wouldn’t be a shock to see this announced very soon.

You may be having a case of Deja-vu, but rest assured, that was with Fable. A standalone title that comprised the minigames of Fable was was made available under the moniker “Fable II Pub Games, way back in 2008. It wasn’t nearly as popular as how well Gwent seemed to resonate with players, and many have been clamoring for a more feature-complete release. It’s exciting to hear that CD Projekt RED continues to work towards helping give players what they want, and you can be damn sure that we’ll be playing Gwent, right alongside everyone else. There’s no telling of any other details, but a PC release seems likely, with the PS4 and Xbox One would likely be getting versions too, at the very least.

Now there’s just one question, CD Projekt RED. Any chance of a physical, actual card game? Because we’d pay top dollar for it.

Please?
