DRM-Free GOG Galaxy Claims Over Half of All The Witcher 3 PC Players. You Worried Steam?

A press release sent our way today indicates that in the first two weeks since launch, GOG Galaxy has become the home to over 693,000 players of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt; more than all other PC distribution platforms combined. Now seeing as this is an upstart service in its infancy that is quite impressive. Could this spell either a big decrease in Steam’s number or perhaps a change in Steam’s policies?

Breaking it down that is more than 21.5 petabytes of game and bonus content delivered, 3.5 million achievements unlocked, and 1,770 combined years of game time spread over 190+ countries, all through GOG Galaxy.

For those of you not in the know (but really, who isn’t?), GOG Galaxy is the DRM-free online gaming platform that is truly gamer-friendly, allowing you to customize your experience with a wide range of optional features, including stat-tracking, achievements, friend lists, game backups, auto-updates, and even crossplay with Steam.

It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out as GOG Galaxy undoubtedly grows over the next year. For a service mere months into existence to claim these kinds of numbers certainly indicates a shift in power could be on its way. What’s your take? Should the Steam team take note?
