Good news for all Metal Gear fans – Konami today has finally launched METAL GEAR ONLINE, the dedicated, squad-based multi-player component of its best-selling METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, for PC Steam.
METAL GEAR ONLINE is apparently built around a dedicated squad-based competitive multiplayer structure, which has been fully redesigned with the familiar gameplay and aesthetic styling of the METAL GEAR SOLID series. The online element introduces Tactical Team Operations and features a ‘class system’ that more uniquely defines the strengths and abilities of player characters on the battlefield. Players can select from 3 distinct classes: Scout, Enforcer and Infiltrator.
Word is that METAL GEAR ONLINE also supports 16-player online battles for 8v8 PvP combat (up to 12 players only for PS3 / Xbox 360). Players can select different missions, utilize special customization options, and take advantage of support weapons unique to the online multiplayer title. METAL GEAR ONLINE also features a revised version of the Buddy system, pairing two players as allies for enhanced, multiplayer benefits.
METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, which includes METAL GEAR ONLINE, has an SRP of $59.99 for the PS4, the Xbox One, and Steam; and $49.99 for the PS3, and Xbox 360. SRP of the ‘Collector’s Edition’ is $99.99 for the PS4 and the Xbox One.
COGconnected reviewed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain when it released back in September, calling it “Kojima’s defining moment.” It has gone on to be one of 2015’s highest-rated games, and also one of the top sellers. Kojima and Konami also went through a high-profile divorce in 2015 before the game’s release, meaning that Metal Gear Solid V will be the last title in the series to feature Kojima’s involvement.
