Oculus Rift Has Started Shipping to Game Developers

On Monday, the Oculus Rift team announced that it has started shipping out early build of the device to game developers, who can now start to play around with the VR headset ahead of the device’s 2016 launch.

Oculus said that they are shipping out to devs now so that they can have “early access to Rift hardware and new platform features to finalize [their] game or application.” The intended recipients are stated as those “putting final touches” on their games.

Developers planning a launch title who don’t yet have hardware can also apparently now upload a preview of their app through the Oculus submission tool, and Oculus said that they will “be in touch with next steps.” Hopefully, all of this means that we can expect lots of launch-ready games for the device on release.

Oculus Rift is a Virtual Reality headset originally starting as a Kickstarter campaign. It has since been acquired by Facebook and is now a leading competitor in the race to get a VR headset to market. Oculus has stated that gaming will be the primary focus of the Oculus Rift device.
