The Zodiac Brave Story Gets Namedropped in Final Fantasy XIV’s Upcoming Patch

Get ready to return to Ivalice in Final Fantasy XIV next month as the game’s upcoming Patch 4.1, The Legend Returns, will feature a 24-person raid called the Return to Ivalice. With the father of many classic SRPG titles including Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics, Yasumi Matsuno, writing the scenario for this raid, it’s poised to be a treat for FFT fans. Even some of the promotional material features Delita and Ramza, so it’ll be intriguing to see what they do. That said, today, the site for the upcoming patch went live along with some information and new images about the FFT-themed raid.

The event’s description on the site reads:

This morning, residents of Kugane woke to find above their city an airship unlike any ever seen. Yet while of Garlean design, the vessel distinctly lacked the bleak outfitting common in the Empire’s warmachina. No, this was the Prima Vista, private stage for the Majestic Imperial Theater Company─a troupe having won acclaim across Garlemald for their timeless work, “The Zodiac Brave Story.” Which begets the question…why are they here? The answer to that question and more lies in the selfsame legend of which they sing. The legend of Ivalice.

Here are some more images which remind me of Final Fantasy XII‘s Ivalice architecture.

If you’re a lapsed player like me who’s been letting that monthly subscription roll on each month with no playtime, it’s a good time to jump back into Eorzea and rediscover Ivalice when Final Fantasy XIV‘s 4.1 Patch arrives in early October. We can only hope that we can hit Algus in the face one more time.
