Well……Kinda A Holiday.
Adult Swim has officially announced a release date for their upcoming VR game…and it falls on a holiday. For some. The game is called Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, and is coming out April 20th, 2017. Or 4/20 as you may be more familiar with it. If that does not scream Rick and Morty, nothing does! Owlchemy Labs is on board as the creators of the game alongside Adult Swim Games and bring all their VR experience to play.
The game has been featured at different gaming conventions in the last year. It even made a unique appearance at San Diego Comic Con. So far, it seems it features some wonderfully fast-paced, chaotic adventures with VR mechanics. Players will get to take on the role of one of Rick’s clones, and are placed inside Rick’s garage, where hilarity immediately ensues.
Alex Schwartz from Owlchemy Labs has commented how the VR vehicles is perfect for the game they created. “The game takes place in Rick’s garage, and instantly you would associate all the things that are great about Job Simulator, all the near-field interactions … Rick’s garage is filled with tons of stuff to play with. Chemistry sets and just boxes of things on the shelves. Elements from the show. It’s fully crammed in there”.
One of the biggest potential draws for long time fans is that co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland (who voices many of the show’s characters) is heavily involved in the project. Schwartz has stated that “We get like an hourlong, uncut Justin Roiland brain dump, and we sit around in tears laughing at his VO,”. Seems like just what the doctor order for a 4/20 game release.
Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality will be $29.99 and can be found on Steam and Oculus Home. If you have not seen the trailer for the VR game, check it out below and let us know your thoughts in the comments! Happy 4/20 gamers.
