A Look at Exploration and Discovery in Mass Effect Andromeda

Mass Effect Andromeda Let’s You See Space Like Never Before

Part 3 of the in-depth video series for Mass Effect Andromeda delivers helpful insight about exploring. Exploration has long been a major part of the franchise, less so in Mass Effect 3, but it looks like the game is going back to some of its roots. As players discover planets, seek relics, and meet factions, interaction has some major long-term effects. See it all in the latest video:

The first noteworthy aspect of exploration may be the simple privilege of looking outside your ship. Windows. Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 never offered such viewing pleasure. Despite the series’ sci-fi space theme, players never went far beyond the limits of their galaxy map display. Thankfully, BioWare has increased the immersion for this installment.

At the same time, Mass Effect Andromeda draws and deviates from its progression gameplay on previous titles. In lieu of more basic discovery and resource extraction, players are now building settlements. Whereas you upgrade your ship in Mass Effect 2, Andromeda has you upgrading the Nexus. And instead of recruiting factions for your cause as in Mass Effect 3, you’re decisively opening cryo pods based on your desired perks.

Not too long ago, we learned that Mass Effect Andromeda would be the longest game in the franchise. The various facets of discovery and exploration highlighted in this latest video would explain why. But we haven’t even gotten to the main story mode. Therefore, we suspect quite a few hours of cinematic fun on top of everything thus far.
