Oculus Rift announced today that Playful’s virtual reality platformer, Lucky’s Tale, will be bundled with every new Oculus Rift VR headset sold at launch. Lucky’s Tale joins space shooter EVE:Valkyrie from CCP Games, which has already been revealed as a launch title. Here is a new Trailer released for the announcement:
Lucky’s Tale is a 3D platformer, in which you guide Lucky the fox across pitfalls and try to avoid enemies. It has a colorful, cartoonish feel that will likely appeal to younger audiences. It was first unveiled at GDC 2014, and got lots of praise from those in the industry who were, um … lucky enough to try it out.
“We always believed there was an opportunity for platformers in VR, but it wasn’t until playing Lucky’s Tale and working with the Playful team that we truly realized its potential to change how people view this genre of gaming forever,” said Palmer Luckey (no relation), Founder of Oculus. “Lucky’s Tale delivers on everything you want in a next-generation VR game – it’s thrilling, full of adventure, and incredibly fun to play.”
With Lucky’s Tale, EVE: Valkyrie, an Xbox One wireless controller, the headset and tracking camera included on purchase, the Oculus Rift will be quite a bundle – let’s hope that it isn’t too expensive as a result. It does certainly deliver on Oculus’s stated mission to position the VR platform as a primarily-gaming device, however.
