Horizon Zero Dawn Is a Fresh Take On the Formula
It’s no secret that the Ubisoft formula is getting old. If they really want to succeed with open-world game design, Horizon Zero Dawn should be their benchmark. Horizon is a masterful combination of vast landscapes and detailed quests, and Aloy’s adventure should be what Ubisoft is aiming for with their open world franchises like Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and Watch Dogs.
Massive maps, meaningless side quests and pointless collectibles are the bread and butter of Ubisoft games. While some enjoy the familiarity that lingers in many of its largest franchises, plenty of gamers are tired of this formulaic approach. So, is it time for Ubisoft to do something new? Not necessarily, but they should definitely look at their peers for inspiration as Horizon Zero Dawn makes the familiar feel fresh. Check out our video below that explores Ubisoft’s troubles and how they need to look at their peers for inspiration.
