Mega Man 11 Video Review
One of the few long-running iconic video game characters that didn’t originate from Nintendo, Mega Man has been looked at fondly over the years as a defining period of gaming in the hearts of adult gamers in their younger years. As video games started to grow, so to did Mega Man try to evolve with the ever-changing tides however each successive entry seemed to swing and miss, instead leaving the nostalgia-starved gamer with a bad taste in their mouth. Not so with the latest entry to the series. Mega Man 11 manages to straddle the lines of including new content and mechanics while maintaining the authentic and hearty Mega Man experience. What makes it so great? Check out our video review below to find out.
Mega Man 11 starts with an incredibly authentic Mega Man experience with its platforming, precise and fast paced combat, puzzle solving, and over the top voice acting that we have all come to know and love from the series. It then takes this formula and does what any good franchise needs to do: branch out with a new feature. Mega Man 11 adds the Double Gear system; players can now either slow down time or up the power of their blaster. While these seem like unnecessary additions at first, the game creates situations in which using these abilities are vital to success. This is done so in a way that feels natural for the series and it also a key component of the overarching narrative, letting it blend seamlessly into the game itself. For fans of Mega Man you will be happy to see what feels like an updated return to form of the classic gameplay you may know and love, and for the younger gamer out there who has never played a Mega Man game, buckle up and get ready for frustration as you learn what gaming was all about.
Mega Man 11 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. For more information, check out the game’s official website.
