Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Video Review – Almost Worthy of the Gods

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Video Review

With last years hugely successful new direction for the Assassin’s Creed series, Odyssey looks to take the next step forward in completing the franchise’s transition from stealth/action game to full-blown RPG. While Origins laid the groundwork for this change, Odyssey was left with a very large shoe to fill in terms of not only continuing the progress made, but also improving upon it. How well did the game pull this off with such a comparably short development time? Check out our video review below to see what we think.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the latest in the long-running series about two secret societies warring against each other at various key points in history. Continuing the new gameplay style set in Origins, Odyssey is a fully realized RPG experience with crafting, loot drops, hundreds of side quests, game-altering decisions, multiple play styles and outcomes, dialogue options, a wanted system, and so much more. The story follows one of two possible descendants of King Leonidas during the Peloponnesian war as they venture out on their own odyssey to uncover their destiny. While set in a truly historic time as the series has been known to do, the game also ventures more into the mystical with the inclusion of mythical creatures and artifacts.

While the new setting is gorgeous the game does still feel much like Origins, and while that isn’t a bad thing, it doesn’t do much to stand out on its own. If you are a fan of Origins than this is going to be a fantastic experience, but if you were hoping for something completely different you might want to wait for the next title in the series.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. For more information, check out the game’s official website.
