8-Bit Armies Video Review – Mine, Craft, Command, and Conquer

8-Bit Armies Video Review

8-Bit Armies is a retro real-time strategy game developed by Petroglyph Games that builds on the foundations of the now oft-neglected genre. This simple, fun-looking game about wreaking havoc on the battlefield. Promising an accessible, fun strategy game that doesn’t weigh down the player with too many choices or drag with too much of a learning curve is much easier than actually delivering one, but that’s why Petroglpyh has promised to do. Did they? Watch our video review below to find out.

Turns out that for the most part, the answer to that question is a yes. While this game doesn’t scream originality in its design or mechanics, it delivers on polished gameplay and technical prowess. 8-Bit Armies purposefully drives back into basics, bringing to mind old RTS games like Command and Conquer. This game leans on your passion for endless management of the warfare, and admirably presents a streamlined interface that does away with the complication of similar games today. While difficult to navigate with a controller, this game is a fun throwback to the heyday of real-time strategy games while being very accessible to newcomers. All in all, 8-Bit Armies is a lot of fun, sometimes more so than games that look a lot better.

8-Bit Armies is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4. For more information, check out the game’s official website.
