COGconnected’s Best of 2017 Awards – Sports/ Racing
Both sports and racing games tend to have massive libraries of games, with each racing brand or sports league putting out a game yearly to keep up with each season of the actual event. There was a period of time where this over flowing market of the same title became quite stagnant, offering players little more than the exact same gameplay with a new coat of paint. There were a few attempts at new modes and features here and there, but nothing that particularly screamed “must have” until of course, 2017 rolled around with its jaw dropping new titles.
While we might not have had as many entries into this category as some of the others, the games that did launch this year worked hard to deliver a fresh experience from a seemingly cold past and they delivered. Madden 18 caught the attention of non-football fans with the inclusion of the Longshot mode, an incredibly emotional story about working your way up to the big leagues. NHL 18 found its stride by offering the same hockey we know and love but adding a throwback arcade-like Threes mode. Finally, Forza Motorsport 7 set the bar for racing simulators while finding a balance for playability, which allows for players of any age and experience to have fun.
With all these games and more pulling out all the stops to revitalize their franchise, only one can be named the best sports/ racing game of 2017. Check out our video below and see who we voted as the top pick.
COGconnected’s Best of 2017 Awards are still coming at you with the Nolan Northy, Prettiest Pony, and Worst Game of the Year still to come.
