Razer’s BlackShark V3 Pro Review – Ultimate ESports Weapon

Razer’s BlackShark V3 Pro Review

A few years ago, I reviewed Razer’s BlackShark V2 Pro and found plenty to admire. At its price point, the 50mm Triforce Titanium drivers impressed me, along with its lightweight build, upgraded microphone, sleek aesthetics, and dependable battery life. Still, it wasn’t without flaws, which made me genuinely curious to see how Razer would refine the design and tackle the issues I raised back in 2023.

Straight out of the box, the Razer BlackShark V3 Pro sticks to its aviation-inspired roots, but I was surprised by how closely it resembles the V2 Pro. Truthfully, the signature BlackShark aesthetic hasn’t evolved much since before 2020. Razer clearly went with the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy. The headset still sports a sleek, no-nonsense design that prioritizes performance: a minimalist frame, slim suspension-style headband, and large oval earcups padded with dual-layered memory foam. The matte finish adds a clean, understated touch. No RGB lighting, no flashy extras – it’s all about preserving the timeless BlackShark identity while delivering top-tier audio.

While the build quality remains rock-solid, the microphone has seen a noticeable upgrade. The V2 featured a thinner, fixed-position detachable mic, whereas the V3 Pro boasts a heftier 12mm HyperClear Full Band Mic that looks and feels distinctly more professional. It’s still detachable, but with a studio-grade presence that elevates the overall aesthetic.

Inflation Strikes Again

The downside? It’s priced a bit higher than the V2 Pro. At $249.99 USD (at the time of writing), the V3 Pro edges into premium territory. It’s certainly feature-packed, and loyal BlackShark fans will likely appreciate what’s on offer. Still, the $50 price bump is a letdown, though not entirely unexpected.

Just like its predecessor, the V3 Pro is effortless to set up. Right out of the box, everything you need to jump into gaming is included. I used the headset with both my PC and mobile phone, and thanks to four connectivity options (2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, USB-A, and 3.5mm), it’s incredibly easy to switch between devices. I genuinely appreciated how seamless the setup process was.

Before diving into how these bad boys sound, I’ve got to highlight the durability of this headset. The exposed metal yokes are stylish that clearly boost its rugged build. Subtle Razer branding etched into the top of the headband and along the earcups adds a sleek, premium touch. Nothing flashy but just clean, solid, and built to last.

Top-Tier Audio Performance

Equipped with Gen-2 HyperSpeed Wireless technology, the V3 Pro delivers a leap in audio latency, now clocking in at an impressive 10ms. This is unquestionably impressive competitive responsiveness. The audio performance is equally striking, powered by 50mm TriForce bio-cellulose drivers that produce clean, distortion-free sound with enhanced spatial precision. Sure, the driver size matches the V2 Pro, but the output is anything but ordinary. It’s punchy, immersive, and perfect for zeroing in on footsteps, reloads, and those subtle in-game audio cues that give you the edge.

One of the standout additions to the BlackShark line is hybrid active noise cancellation, a first for the series. It’s a welcome upgrade and easy to toggle on and off. Does it eliminate all outside noise? Not entirely. But it definitely helps. I appreciated not hearing the usual keyboard clatter or my wife clanging around in the kitchen, so I made full use of the feature. It effectively blocks out softer background sounds, though louder noises can still sneak through.

Much like the AMC feature, I’m left a little disappointed with the battery life. Sure, 70 hours sounds impressive, and there are definitely long intervals between charges, but that’s the same battery life as the V2 Pro. I was expecting an improvement, but I suppose all the new tech under the hood comes at a cost.

For all the audiophiles out there, the V3 Pro steps things up on PC with THX Spatial Audio featuring 7.1.4 surround sound. This tech introduces verticality to the soundstage via virtual overhead channels, dramatically enhancing positional awareness. You can hear every detail with pinpoint precision. It’s all about gaining that competitive edge, and this feature definitely delivers on faster reaction times.

Backed by The Pros

Developed with feedback from esports pros like NiKo and Shotzzy, the V3 Pro is fine-tuned for competitive play. Platform-specific tuning ensures optimized performance across PC (THX Spatial), PlayStation (Tempest 3D Audio), and Xbox (Windows Sonic). Rounding it all out are 12 pro-tuned EQ profiles, and up to 9 custom EQ slots onboard. I absolutely loved how I can store 9 EQ presets directly on the headset.

Overall, the BlackShark V3 Pro marks a clear step forward for Razer in the realm of competitive audio gear. With input from prominent esports professionals, it truly shines in the sound department. While the design hasn’t seen major upgrades and the price might give some pause, this minimalist headset delivers serious performance. No frills – just raw audio power. And honestly, that’s more than OK.
