8 – A third full-length Final Fantasy CG movie was announced called Kingsglaive! It will be released before Final Fantasy XV to download and stream. Let’s be real for a second here everyone… WOW. I mean really, just wow.
9 – The car featured in the Kingsglaive trailer is an Audi R8, and there will be one production model made of it. Do I want it? YES. Can I afford it? NO. 10 – Lena Headey came out to reveal that she will be voicing a character called Luna in Kingsglaive, and that the film will take place at the same time as the story from the game. While the game will focus on Noctis’ journey, Kingsglaive will focus on what’s happening in the kingdom he leaves. Then a video of Sean Bean appeared on screen, and he revealed that he will be voicing King Regis. And finally, Aaron Paul came out, replacing Lena Headey to reveal that he will be playing a character called Nyx, who may be the protagonist, despite the trailer heavily featuring the King. He also revealed that Square-Enix has secretly been working on Kingsglaive for 3 years. 11 – A minigame was announced called Justice Monsters Five and it won’t just be in-game, it will also be available for iOS, Android, and Windows 10 outside of the game. Preregistration begins immediately!
12 – Mat Kishimoto from Square-Enix USA came out to announce the Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo, which features young Noctis in a dream state. The trailer showed him shrunken to a tiny size, being followed by the Carbuncle summon, driving a tiny car, fighting with a squeaky hammer, and eventually battling an iron giant as an adult. The Platinum Demo features material which will not be available in-game. Kishimoto said it was designed to have something for everyone, with fun mechanics; it is meant for fans as well as people who are casual gamers, who don’t love already love Final Fantasy. Kishimoto then played the demo for a bit to reveal that the player can step on discs that make it operate like a tech demo; players can control the weather, or unlock monsters to play as. The Demo will be totally free, and is available immediately for PS4 and Xbox One! And if players beat it, they unlock the Carbuncle summon spell DLC, which is only available from completing the demo!
13 – A Deluxe Edition of Final Fantasy XV is announced, which comes with steelbook packaging, featuring the Yoshitaka Amano Big Bang The game will come with Kingsglaive on disc, and DLC for an outfit, sword, and car. But then they announced an Ultimate Collector’s Edition with all of that plus, a soundtrack, artbook, statue, and a bunch more DLC. The Ultimate Collector’s Edition will be limited to 30,000 copies and they are both immediately available for pre-order. The Ultimate Edition will cost you a whopping $269.99 but holy hell would that make any Final Fantasy superfan happy. 14 – Final Fantasy Director Hajime Tabata came out to push a big red button, then an invisible air button (oh Japan!) to announce that the release date of Final Fantasy XV would be September 30 2016! There was a slot machine that cleverly teased the date would be November instead of September. 15 – And Tabata revealed that there would (obviously) be a 15th announcement, which would be a 2nd trailer, which, at the end, revealed that the car Noctis drives can be turned into a plane. All in all, for a huge fan of the franchise, it was a great event. The hosts did a great job of recognizing that the release date and demo were revealed earlier today, without spoiling the fun for those watching who may have not heard. I figured there would be trailers, but the announcements of the Kingsglaive movie, Brotherhood anime series, and Justice Monsters Five mobile game were total surprises. And I will immediately be downloading the Platinum Demo and preordering a copy of that Ultimate Collector’s Edition. For my thoughts on the Platinum Demo, and plenty of future coverage on Final Fantasy XV, keep checking back to COGconnected.
