Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV Event Breakdown – All the Final Fantasy… ALL OF IT!

Last night Square-Enix held an event celebrating Final Fantasy XV, which promised several announcements regarding one of the most anticipated games of this gaming generation. For those who weren’t in attendance, the event was streamed on Twitch and YouTube beginning at 7pm (Pacific Time), and ended at around 8:15pm.

The whole thing started with a bang, as Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi came out to thank the viewers, and said some brief words about how Final Fantasy is his child, and how he hopes his child will grow into something he will appreciate, which was almost said in a way that hinted at the series taking missteps. Obnoxiously, the feed kept changing camera angles, so the viewer couldn’t always read Sakaguchi’s subtitles, which were shown on the giant screen behind him.

A new trailer was shown for the game, featuring a cover of Stand By Me by Florence + the Machine, which didn’t reveal anything too incredible, but that cover was solid. This trailer will likely become known as the “Reclaim Your Throne” trailer.

Then out came the show’s hosts, Greg Miller and Tim Gettys. They were fine, with Tim playing a straight man/Final Fantasy fan type of host, and Greg trying to reign himself in from talking over Tim too much, and proudly proclaiming that he’s not a Final Fantasy fan. About half of their jokes were hits throughout the night. Not surprising from the Kinda Funny crew really.

The pair revealed that there would be 14 announcements over the course of the evening, and that we’d already seen announcements one and two..

1 – Hironobu Sakaguchi was at the event

2 – Reveal of the new Final Fantasy XV trailer

Now things really kicked off and there was a TON of stuff to take in. HERE WE GO!
