Yakuza Kiwami 2 – PS4 – Aug 28
The Yakuza series has seen a recent surge in the West, beginning with the localization of Yakuza 0, followed by the release of Yakuza Kiwami, and then finally the release of Yakuza 6: The Song of life. You can check out our reviews of these titles here (0), here (Kiwami), and here (6). Yakuza Kiwami 2 continues Sega’s journey to the West on the PS4 with its remake of Yakuza 2. The title is set to improve gameplay features, clear up confusing plot points from the original release, and include Goro Majima as a playable character. We are looking forward to seeing more Yakuza titles in the West, and hope to see the remasters of 3, 4, and 5 on our consoles shortly as well.
Shenmue I & II – PC, PS4, X1 – Aug 21
While Shenmue III has been delayed twice so far, and expecting to release in 2019, Shenmue I & II’s release in August 2018 is sure to satisfy some’s cravings for the title. With Shenmue releasing back in 2000 (in North America) for the Dreamcast and Shenmue II releasing in 2002 (in North America) for the Xbox, many are unlikely to have experienced them during their initial releases. For those that did, it has been a long time, and Shenmue I & II is re-releasing as an HD port with an updated UI, Japanese audio, and new control options. As someone who never got to play these games, I am excited to jump into these re-releases.
The Walking Dead: The Final Season – PC, PS4, X1 – Aug 14
Since its release in 2012, The Walking Dead elevated Telltale Games into the spotlight, earning them the right to work with IPs such as Game of Thrones, Minecraft, Batman, and Guardians of the Galaxy. During this time, there are two constants with Telltale Games: quality storytelling and an increasing outdated game engine. The Walking Dead: The Final Season is the last of its story involving Clementine, and is expected to the last to use its current Telltale Tool engine. As likely Telltale’s best series so far, The Final Season is expected to be one for the ages.
