3. God of War (PC) – January 14
God of War is another massive console exclusive, making its way to PC for the first time in January 2022. It’s one of PlayStation’s biggest exclusive franchises, so PC owners who don’t have PS4s have a rare opportunity. God of War was a massive stylistic change to the classic third person action titles for the PS2 and PS3. God of War is a much slower, character-driven experience, heavily inspired by Resident Evil 4 and Uncharted. The original titles had a much closer resemblance to the fast-paced lunacy of the Devil May Cry series. Some didn’t appreciate the change, but the game industry couldn’t ignore the quality and care that went into the (former) PS4 exclusive.
2. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction – January 20
Finally, we arrive at a major original title release for January 2022! Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is the successor to Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. This is a multiplayer tactical shooter through and through. It’s a co-op experience though, designed for players who are tired of nothing but PvP gameplay. There hasn’t been a Rainbow Six game in seven years, so franchise fans have a huge reason to be excited. This is a triple-A, online only release, so any fans hoping for something more narrative driven will have a long wait ahead of them. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is being released for every conceivable console, except the Switch.
1. Pokemon Legends: Arceus
It’s hard to ignore the massive popularity of the Pokemon franchise, which makes Pokemon Legends: Arceus the top release of January 2022. This is only the second original Pokemon title for the Switch, whose owners are mostly used to remakes. Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a story prequel to the recently released Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. What’s most interesting about this new title though, is that it is, for the first time, in the history of the Pokemon franchise, an action RPG. Intriguing…
