6 – Forza Motorsport 7
While not officially confirmed from Microsoft yet, it’s safe to say that another entry in the popular racing series is indeed coming in 2017. In fact, late last year a slip up from the head of a racer wheel manufacturer referred to it as “FM7.” The series has seen a massive popularity boost on Xbox One (particularly the Horizon sub-brand) and continues to be the defining racing franchise to beat these days. Even more interesting is that this is the rare year that both Forza and Gran Turismo go head-to-head with new racing titles.
5 – Sea of Thieves
Let’s face it, Rare just isn’t the same company we all know and love from the N64 days, having failed to deliver a solid new game ever since they were acquired by big ol’ Microsoft. But Sea of Thieves does appear to have the ingredients necessary to scratch that classic Rare itch — at least from what limited footage has been revealed. Consisting of a shared open-world with a pirate theme and co-op online play, this one already has its hooks in us. Rare has been unusually quiet as of late, but we’re confident Sea of Thieves will be a real treasure for Xbox One fans.
4 – Below
Below was one of the first big indie titles announced for the Xbox One in 2013, but unfortunately is another victim of countless delays and large gaps of silence from developer Capybara Games. Having said that, what has been shown of Below has us very intrigued and eager to play this rogue-like adventure. In a blog update in October last year, the studio refused to give a new release window, instead taking the time to complete development without compromise. While we’re always on the side of the devs when it comes to delaying their own game, we’re still hoping that Below graces us sometime in 2017.
