The Top 12 Remakes and Remasters of this Generation

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

Much like the Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection brings together all the games thus far in the franchise. Also, like The Last of Us Remastered, this collection allows players to experience the series before the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. It should be noted that this is the third series that has had games remastered for the current generation that were originally developed by Naughty Dog, a testament to the developer’s longevity and consistency.

Grand Theft Auto V

One of the best-selling games of all time, Grand Theft Auto V released on current generation consoles about a year after its original release, with updated graphics and a first-person perspective. It’s hard to say whether this constitutes as a remaster at all, as it feels like a re-release but is the best version of the game for consoles. In addition to being one of the best-selling games of all time, Grand Theft Auto V is still being played heavily by gamers everywhere.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Though praised by critics, Final Fantasy XII faced criticism from the public due its change in gameplay. Deserving of more than the initial impressions of the game, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age set out to display the game to modern audiences with quality of life changes and access to the International Zodiac Job System. The result? A solid remaster of a game that deserved a bigger audience.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy falls between a remake and a remaster of the first three Crash Bandicoot games. The gameplay was rebuilt from scratch, though the original level designs were kept as the original source code was unavailable. Nonetheless, Vicarious Visions did an excellent job in bringing Naughty Dog’s games to the PS4.
