Anthem (February 22)
Anthem needs to be good, right? It just has to. Bioware is promising a living, breathing world and so far it looks like exactly that. Taking a few cues from the Destiny series, Anthem is an online co-op sci-fi shooter where players take the role of ‘Freelancers’ in cool customizable Javelin exosuits that Iron Man himself would be jealous of. Playing in an open world set on the brink of destruction, it’s your job to explore a futuristic alien world, kicking enemy ass and collecting loot. Sure, Anthem is a bit of a departure from Bioware’s traditional storytelling RPG elements, however this open world title looks graphically brilliant and their gameplay mechanics and action-packed combat look not only fun but intense. Though there’s a fair bit of skepticism involved here, we’re sure Anthem is one to watch for in 2019.
Devil May Cry 5 (March 8)
Over an entire decade later Capcom will finally release the long-awaited 5th entry into the main Devil May Cry series this year! This upcoming game is set to feature both Nero and Dante as well as a third hunter, V, each with their own unique playstyles and if what we’ve seen is anything to go by, Devil May Cry 5 will be just as challenging as ever. Featuring new combat mechanics and weapons systems and even more quick and stylish action, DMC 5 is set to be the most elaborate entry into the long-standing series to date. It’s hard to imagine this latest installment won’t be entirely captivating and that’s something to be very ecstatic about.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (March 22)
The creators of the challenging and brutal Dark Souls and Bloodborne series, FromSoftware, is bringing a new story to life. One of a Samurai’s mission for revenge and honor, overshadowed by an overwhelming sense that death could be just around the corner. Not quite your traditional hack and slash game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice takes you to the landscapes of Japan armed with an arsenal of katanas, bows, and shuriken and while that sounds like a great time already, don’t forget to throw in a badass umbrella shield and a grappling hook for quick and easy maneuverability. Whether you’re looking to become an everyday hero or just kick some serious warrior ass, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice belongs on your watch list for 2019.
Mortal Kombat 11 (April 23)
NetherRealm Studios is bringing back everyone’s favorite gruesome fighter with a newly announced Mortal Kombat 11. The future of the series is here and it seems to build on the last installment in the series, Mortal Kombat X. Though there isn’t too much to go on right now, who doesn’t want to sink their teeth into a brand new Mortal Kombat? It’s bloody, it’s violent, it’s a crazy good time and what’s more is that it looks even better than it ever has. Whether you’re a fan of the previous games or you’re looking for some good ol’ button mashing fun, Mortal Kombat 11 is going to be a must-have for 2019.
