Back 4 Blood
Since the Left 4 Dead series has left a void in the “co-op zombie shooter” genre, Turtle Rock Studios has taken it upon themselves to continue their own legacy with a spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. The basic gameplay loop of the game is expected to be the same, a 4 player co-op mode, or an 8 player competitive mode. Play as zombies or try to survive against them. It’s a simple premise, but one that’s still one of the best, and we can’t wait to get into Back 4 Blood.
Far Cry 6
The Far Cry series found its position in the genre and gaming in general with Far Cry 3. Its subsequent iterations also found success, though were relatively similar to one another. While Far Cry 6 seems to be more of the same, it is a tried and true formula taking place in a Ubisoft world. Taking place on a fictional Caribbean island ruled by a dictator, players should expect a strong main antagonist played by Giancarlo Esposito. The Far Cry series has been a consistent beacon for Ubisoft, so we wouldn’t expect Far Cry 6 to disappoint.
Deathloop
Arkane Studios, of Dishonored and Prey fame, are once again working on another original IP with Deathloop. Players take on the role of Colt, an assassin stuck in a time loop who must take out 8 targets by the end of the day in order to break the loop. On the other hand, Julianna is an agent out to protect the time loop. In this case, Julianna could be played by another player, invoking multiplayer, or as a computer-controlled enemy. With both a unique premise and gameplay loop, Deathloop is sure to be one of the more unique FPS games coming soon.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 takes place 15 years after the events of the first game. This zombie-based open-world first-person shooter with parkour elements now incorporates RPG elements as well. Like in the first game, players look to survive in the zombie apocalypse with the use of weapons, parkour, crafting, and more. The game also allows for more dynamic player choices which affect the state of the world as well as how you are perceived by others. While the game has been delayed a decent amount, Dying Light 2 still remains among our most anticipated games, let alone FPS games.
Halo Infinite
One of the biggest titles of the year, Halo Infinite was unfortunately delayed out of the Xbox Series X launch lineup and window. While there were concerns with the game when it was originally showcased, we hope that the delay gives the developers time to give Halo Infinite the shine it deserves. While recent Halo games have not resonated with fans as the earlier titles did, the games were not terrible by any means. With its storied past, the Halo franchise stands among the most iconic and is easily Xbox’s biggest exclusive franchise. Touching on Halo Infinite one more time, the game’s return to its roots is of heavy interest, and we look forward to seeing the blend of contemporary mechanics with the classic Halo feel.
