7. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
The sequel to the hit Wii JRPG that no one could find at a decent price was announced at the Nintendo Switch press event back in January. Not too much is known about the title, other than the game stars a new character and features a more chibi art style for its characters than past Xenoblade titles. Whether this title actually releases in 2017 is also a mystery, though fans are very eager to see more.
6. Divinity: Original Sin II
Currently released in early access as of September 2016, Divinity: Original Sin II is the sequel to well-received title, Divinity: Original Sin. Like Torment: Tides of Numenera, Divinity: Original Sin II received its funding via Kickstarter. One of our writers here at COGConnected previewed this title’s early access build last year and had some good things to say. The title is set to release on PC as well as consoles in 2017, but eager fans can hop into the early access build now.
5. South Park: The Fractured But Whole
South Park: The Fractured but Whole looks to take advantage of the popularity that super hero movies currently have. The story, as one might distinguish from the title, is based on a civil war between two groups of “superheroes” in South Park. The game is a sequel to South Park: The Stick of Truth, which is based on a fantasy setting. Those looking to hop into the series do not have to worry about not playing the first game, as it comes as a free digital download with pre-orders.
4. Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Seemingly coming in under the radar is Kingdom Come: Deliverance, an RPG from Warhorse Studios that is a historical RPG taking place in 1403. Those looking for magic and dragons should look elsewhere, at least until some mods are released. The game features branching open ended quest lines, a large open world, heavy customization, a need for sustenance and sleep, and a classless system. This game has been a huge undertaking for Warhorse Studios and we are looking forward to the final product of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
